Why We ‘All Year School’ Our Kids

Ever heard of all year school? It’s the concept of continuing your child’s education throughout the year, as opposed to breaking for several weeks or months over the Summer and holidays. I know there are a few districts out there that offer all year school, but not many. This is one of the benefits of homeschooling that we’re really thankful for. As the main educator for our children, we make the decision on when they take a break and for how long. Why We Love All Year School One of the reasons I love all year school, is because it’s less pressure on me and the kids. Each grade level…

  • Who I Am Besides Being a Mom

As I write this, I can feel my chest tighten and my eyes fight back tears. I feel like I’m having a bit of an identity crisis. Okay, so crisis may be too strong of a word. I’m happy, I’m healthy, and I’m not lost. But I’m having a hard time figuring out who I am besides being a Mom. I’m a Wife. I love my husband and try to support him in his goals and dreams. I look to him as the head of our family and respect his input and decisions. I do my best to make him laugh, look pretty, and feed him good meals. We’re getting…

When Adventure Calls You | Visiting Bridal Falls, BC

Some days I wake up and crave an adventure. We haven’t had a ton of family time lately and felt the need to spend some concentrated time together. We didn’t have the time to spend the night anywhere, so we loaded the kids up in the truck and headed to Bridal Falls. Bridal Falls is located in Eastern Chilliwack, near where the highway splits off to take you towards Hope or Harrison Hot Springs. It’s open from 8:00am to dusk and has lots of picnic areas and pit toilets. We arrived around 9:30am and there were only two other vehicles there. The weather was gorgeous and the kids were super…

  • What Getting Healthier In My Thirties Looks Like

For those of you who didn’t know, I turned thirty-two a few months back. Turning thirty has definitely impacted my body in ways I didn’t previously think about. Getting healthier in my twenties looks a lot different from getting healthier in my thirties. I’ve never really worried about my size. I’ve always been a curvy girl, and that doesn’t come with the model thin body you see on TV and in magazines. For the most part I’m okay with that, because (honest sharing), I like having a larger chest. My weight has always landed on my hips area, but that’s fairly easy to cover with the right clothing. But now…

  • Life With Chickens | One Month In

If you follow along with my instastories, you’ve been getting a peek into our life with chickens for the past four weeks. We’ve had ‘the girls’ for a month now, so I thought I’d give a little update on how we’ve adjusted to life with hens. For those unaware, we bought four pullets (8 weeks) from a local hatchery. We have two Production Reds and two White Sussex. We chose these breeds because they are known for being great layers and both will produce lovely brown eggs. We do not plan to raise meat birds this year. As our pullets are only 12 weeks, we can’t expect to see eggs…

How To Save On Flights To Your Dream Vacation

Finding ways to save on flights when we go away is always my top priority in regards to travel. As a family of five, we could be paying anywhere from $1000-5000 on just our airfare. That’s a huge chunk of cash that’d I’d rather save for another vacation! Driving is an option in some circumstances, but because time is money (or in my husbands case, lost days of work) we usually try to find cheap flights or alter our plans. However, there are some tricks I’ve come across and I want to share them with you!   How To Save On Flights For Your Dream Vacation My first piece of…

My six year old has been obsessed with all things Egypt for months now. We’ve been pouring over books about pyramids and sarcophagus’s daily and he cannot get enough! He desperately wants to see these things in person, but because of travel advisories we don’t have any imminent plans to visit. Then I heard some wonderful news; Egypt: The Time of Pharaohs exhibit is coming to Victoria, BC! For the first time in North America, you’ll have the opportunity to experience what life was like in Ancient Egyptian times. With over 300 artifacts that date back 4000+ years, you’ll get up close and personal with coffins, statues, and golden jewelry. What…

  • Focusing On The Positives In Your Life

Today I’m feeling very grateful to live the life that we do.  It’s been a hard couple of weeks. My husband has been working crazy overtime and I’ve been on my own with the kids a lot. Instead of being frustrated by the long days, I’m choosing to be grateful that the kids dad has such a great job and the ability to work. He goes to his office each day without complaint and never brings home that weight. He’s giving me the ability to stay home with our kids full time and not worry financially. And when he’s here, he’s really here! He’s changing diapers, he’s emptying the dishwasher,…

  • There’s Beauty In Every Season Of Motherhood

While walking through the halls of my church last Sunday, I came across a woman nursing her baby. She sat quietly alone, and smiled as I walked past. “I really miss breastfeeding,” I said to her. She replied with surprise, and mentioned that she found it so isolating. I had forgotten that feeling. It’s funny how when you’re in one season of motherhood, the others seem so peaceful. It was only a few years ago that I was in that baby phase. I remember being awake in the middle of the night with a newborn, changing him, feeding him, rocking him. I lived my life in sweat pants and rarely…

  • The Best Thing You Can Purchase For A New Mom

Approximately seven years ago, I had my first baby shower. I remember gathering with friends and family, munching on snacks, and smiling for photos despite feeling rather large. It was such an exciting time in my life! I’ve always loved baby showers. I’m a firm believer that all children should be celebrated, because each is a little miracle! And although gifts aren’t expected, it sure does help Mom and Dad out. When I shop for a baby shower, I tend to be drawn to the most adorable outfit or baby blanket I can find. Practicality isn’t typically at the forefront of my mind, but it probably should be as a…
