Are You Living The Life You Want To Live? | Challenging the Status Quo

Take a second to answer the following two questions: First, how did you spend your last 24 hours? And second, what was the last thing you purchased? I’m asking you so that you can determine how you’re investing your time and money.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot the past couple of days. It’s important now and then to take a hard look at the life we’re living and determine if the path we’re on is bringing us joy and fulfillment, or stress and exhaustion.

Are you living the life you want to live?

Are we truly connecting with the people we love? Do we visit them? Call them? Invest our energy into making sure they know they are loved?

Are we spending money on things that will end up in the trash? Another gadget? More clothes? The latest and greatest?

Are we feeling sorry for ourselves because we see other people achieving what we think we can’t? Are we jealous of their jobs? Houses? Bodies? Families?

A lot determines how we live. Our education, finances, family life, and faith will all have an impact on the choices we make. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut and feel as though we can’t change the way we’re living, but we actually can. If you don’t like the way you’re living, you can make a change for the better.

I’m not a believer in the five, ten, or twenty year plan. I don’t like the saying of, “Maybe one day…” Why? Because no one is promised tomorrow. We get sick, we become physically unable, and we die. It’s important to be prepared for the future, but if there is a change you want to make in your life, or a dream you want to make happen, I think we should be working towards that today.

Scary thought, eh? To most that sounds extreme, but it doesn’t have to be.

It means actually giving thought to that crazy idea of moving your family outside the city and starting a new life. It means getting on that airplane even though you’re terrified of a ten hour flight. It means paying down that debt or walking into a new church where you don’t know anybody because you need to reconnect with something bigger than you.

On their own these things may sound terrifying, maybe even impossible. But it starts with one small step. We need to push ourselves just a little bit outside our comfort zones. Daily conscience choices every day can bring us closer to what we want to achieve.

No, It probably won’t be easy. There are always growing pains. Someone won’t agree with your decision, but you aren’t doing it for them. So what’s holding you back from making a plan?

We only get one life, my friends. Today I want to challenge your thinking: Are you living the life you want to live?
