Walt Disney World Resort Hotels | Which Is Right For Your Family?

There’s a number of reasons to stay on-site at the Walt Disney World Resort Hotels during your family vacation. But which Resort should you choose? This post will explain to you the benefits of choosing a Disney Resort and the categories offered.

Why Stay On-Site at Walt Disney World Resort Hotels

Walt Disney World Resort Hotels | Which is right for you?

The Walt Disney World Resort is massive! Spanning approximately 30,000 acres, it includes four theme parks, two water parks, a shopping district known as Disney Springs, and many Resort hotels!

A huge benefit of staying on-site is the fact that you’ll be immersed in the magic for your entire trip! You’ll be greeted by friendly Cast Members and Disney level service at every turn and Disney theming is incorporated everywhere. Different Resorts offer other additional perks like movies under the stars, nightly campfires, and fishing in the river.

Unlike it’s West Coast friend, Disney World is not walkable and requires constant transportation to get around. When you stay on-site at Walt Disney World Resort hotels you’ll be offered the use of Resort transportation, an elaborate bus system that will get you wherever you need to go!

Also included in the cost of your stay is the use of Disney’s Magical Express, a motor coach that will pick you up and drop you off at Orlando International Airport for your arrival and departure. Convenient and a cost savings!

How do the Walt Disney World Resort Hotels Differ?

You should know that Walt Disney World Resort Hotels are broken up into three different categories. There are Value, Moderate, and Deluxe Hotels. There are also DVC (Disney Vacation Club) locations as well as a campground that has cabins and campsites.

Value Resorts are the most affordable (starting just over $100 USD) and offer fun themes for kids. The rooms measure about 260 square feet and include two double beds and a bathroom. Although they’re made to hold 3-4 people, you will find the quarters tight. The Value Resorts are meant to be used as a place to crash at the end of a busy day and you won’t find yourself spending much time in them, so don’t worry about this too much unless you plan to spend entire days there.

Value Resorts offer great cafeteria style dining with lots of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options as well as big pool areas to cool off on a hot day. It should be noted that the Value Resorts are the furthest away from the Parks, meaning you’ll spend a longer amount of time on the bus.

If you’re looking for a cheap stay, these Resorts are a wonderful place to call home! I personally love the theming of Disney’s Art of Animation!

Moderate Resorts are a great step-up from the Values and offer a few more perks. The rooms jump to around 314 square feet and offer Queen beds, giving you more sleeping and living space. You’ll generally pay close to $200USD a night for a stay here.

The pools at Disney Moderate Resorts are a lot of fun! Most offer water slides, splash zones, and separate quiet pool areas. However, depending on the location of your room, you may find yourself spending ten minutes to get to where you want to go. A benefit of the Moderate Resorts is a shorter bus ride to the Parks and you’ll have access to both cafeteria dining and sit-down restaurants.

Lovely location for dining at Port Orleans Riverside – A Disney Moderate Resort.

If you’re looking to stay in a comfortable room without investing a lot of money into your accommodations I would highly recommend the Moderates! They’re the perfect compromise. My favourites are Port Orleans French Quarter and Coronado Springs.

Wanting to take your Disney vacation to the next level? Then you’ll want to book a Deluxe Resort! They offer stunning décor, top level service and fine dining and character experiences. They’re also located walking distance or a short monorail ride to at least one Disney Park, making popping in for dinner or a show very easy!

The Deluxe rooms at Disney Resorts offer space and the ultimate in comfort!

The room sizes vary from 350-450 square feet and can sleep up to five guests. You’ll relax in comfortable Queen sized beds with the option of a pull down bunk from the couch. You’ll enjoy balconies, top notch toiletries, air-conditioned indoor hallways and large lobbies. The gorgeous pools, grounds and park views make for a wonderful added bonus! You’ll pay a pretty penny to stay here (starting just over $300 and going up to $600USD per night) but the relaxation cannot be beat!

Stormalong Bay | Walt Disney World Resort Hotels
Stormalong Bay at Disney’s Beach and Yacht Club Resorts. Arguably the BEST pool at Walt Disney World!

Our personal favourite Deluxe Hotels are Disney’s Beach Club and Disney’s Yacht Club Resorts. Stormalong Bay has a sandy bottom pool and lazy river that my kids didn’t want to leave! If you choose to stay at a Deluxe, do yourself a favor and plan on spending at least one full day around your Resort!

There really is no wrong choice when it comes to choosing which Walt Disney World Resort Hotels may be right for your family. It comes down to what your priorities and theming preferences are and what allows you to experience the magic within your budget.
